Okay, so I'm totally not in the market for a regular SUV (convertible SUV like a CJ or Samurai, yes, but 4-door family vehicle, no), but I've driven past a '92 Range Rover on the side of the road for years and finally decided to stop and look at it.
It was running when they parked it 7 years ago, but hasn't been started since. It has 112k miles on the odo. The interior is pretty sun-damaged (especially the door seals, which were all hanging down), but otherwise seemed to be in pretty good shape. The only thing they said was 'sometimes after driving, it'll be hard to re-start' (I'm assuming after it's warm), but otherwise they don't know of anything wrong with it.
Okay, okay, so the bottom line: Is $500 too good of a price to pass up? Are Range Rovers as unreliable as I've heard? Are they hard to work on? I really don't have $500 to drop on this, but is this as killer of a deal as I think it is? According to NADA, it books for $4000-$9000. KBB only goes back as far as 1994, but according to them, it would book for $3800-$6000.
So... should I be seriously considering this?

Sorry, you lost me at Range Rover and "ran when parked 7 years ago." Move on son.
EDIT- Sorry, just saw the price was $500. Call your local scrapper and see what you might get for this thing. You might make a cool $20 on it.

I was about to say avoid a RR thats been sitting until I saw it was $500. The transmission alone is worth as much as $3k if its good. A friend of mine sold her non running classic RR for $4500 to some guy who exports them to Africa. At first I told her it had to be a Craigslist scam, but he came the next day with cash, and hauled it off.

how much time/week do you have to love on this thing?

Unless it's a car you love I'd avoid a something that been sitting for that long. To make it safe and more or less reliable you'll probably have to sink about $1200 in parts and many week ends. I'm assuming you'd be doing the work yourself. If you have to pay someone to do the work just walk away. It's not worth it.
